NEC Wi-Fi missing after a Windows reinstall: identify the right driver

Applies to

LAVIE and VersaPro PCs running Windows 10 or Windows 11. Diagnostic guidance only; a compatible package must explicitly cover the full model, Windows release, architecture and fitted adapter.

If Wi-Fi disappears after reinstalling Windows, first determine whether Windows can see the wireless adapter. A missing Wi-Fi menu alone does not identify the driver you need.

Separate the symptom from the cause

What you seeWhat to check next
No wireless adapter under Network adapters; an unknown device is presentRead the unknown device’s hardware IDs and compare them with the manufacturer’s package documentation.
A wireless adapter appears but Wi-Fi is disabledCheck Wi-Fi and airplane-mode settings before changing drivers.
Wi-Fi connects, but only one website failsInvestigate the connection or website rather than assuming a missing adapter driver.

Record four details before downloading

  1. Copy the complete NEC model code from the product label, including its suffix.
  2. Run winver and record the Windows release. Record the system type from Settings → System → About.
  3. Open Device Manager → device Properties → Details → Hardware Ids. Record the full identifiers.
  4. Find the source table’s exact model-type column and adapter-specific notes.

Different adapter manufacturers can appear in the same NEC collection. “Intel Wi-Fi” and “Realtek Wi-Fi” are alternatives for different fitted hardware, not interchangeable recommendations. A package listed for an older Windows release does not establish support for the release you just installed.

If the NEC PC has no network access

On another connected device, open the verified NEC source page and save the matching package and its instructions. Transfer them using removable storage. Read the package prerequisites before running the installer. Keep that known matching package available before uninstalling an existing network driver.

Confirm the result

Follow NEC’s restart instructions, then check the adapter’s state in Device Manager and try the connection again. If the exact model or hardware ID cannot be matched, stop selecting packages and use NEC’s support channel. This guide does not prescribe firmware changes or a universal installation order.
